Bring a suitable set of no more than 14 clubs, enough conforming balls and tees, a pitch-mark repairer, ball marker, glove, towel and the scorecard or app required by the club. Add water, weather layers, sunscreen and simple first-aid items for the conditions.
The best checklist depends on whether you carry, use a trolley or ride. Remove unused duplicates regularly so essentials remain easy to find.
Playing essentials
- Clubs, counted before the round.
- Balls, tees and a permanent identification mark.
- Ball marker and pitch-mark repairer.
- Glove and towel.
- Distance information permitted under the competition rules.
The club maximum is explained in How many clubs can you carry?.
Weather and comfort
- Drinking water and suitable food.
- Waterproof jacket, umbrella and rain gloves when needed.
- Sun cream, hat and sunglasses in strong sun.
- Warm layer and spare socks in cold or wet weather.
Course care and organisation
Keep repair tools and tees in accessible pockets. Separate wet clothing from electronics and scorecards. Carry any medicine you personally require and know the course’s emergency procedure.
The essential point
Pack for play, course care and the forecast. A lighter organised bag is more useful than carrying every accessory you own.
